Build-A-Bike (8 of 8)

In week 8 we will review the past 7 weeks, have a course evaluation and celebrate! We will also complete all finishing work on project bikes including adding accessories (racks, fenders, lights, etc) and other finishing work such as taping up handlebars. Test rides are recommended so that adjustments can be made.

Build-A-Bike (7 of 8)

In week 7 we cover Shifters and Derailleurs. Types of shifters will be shown. We will add new shifter cables and housing to project bikes as needed, check and align front and rear derailleurs, check and adjust the limit screws of the derailleurs, cover the difference between friction and index shifting and go over how to adjust shifting of both. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

Build-A-Bike (6 of 8)

In week 6 we cover brakes.  We will cover type of brakes, levers, pads, cable, adjustments and regular maintenance.  This will include an overview of the parts and tools used for this procedure.

Build-A-Bike (4 of 8)

In week 4 we cover Hubs. We will overhaul the front and rear hub of wheels including removal of the freewheel/cassette. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

Build-A-Bike (3 of 8)

In week 3 we cover Headsets. We will overhaul the headset on project bikes including removal of the stem and handlebars, disassembly and cleaning of the headset, repacking bearings and grease, and the re-assembly and adjustment of the headset, stem and bars. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure. Both Threaded and Threadless Headsets will be covered.

Build-A-Bike (2 of 8)

In week 2 we cover Bottom Brackets. We will overhaul the bottom bracket on project bikes including removal of pedals, chain and crank arms. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure. We will also discuss types of bottom brackets.

Build-A-Bike (1 of 8)

Gain a comprehensive overview of bicycle mechanics in this 8 week Build-A-Bike course. We cover overhauling and adjusting bottom brackets, headsets and hubs, wheel truing, brake, shifter and derailleur adjustment and any other finishing work, detail and trouble shooting.

This course is 8 sessions beginning Monday January 28th, meeting once a week every Monday from 7pm-10.
