Basic Bike Maintenance

Description:

Spring is nearly here, learn the basics of how to keep your bike running smoothly for the new season! This workshop will cover the the names of parts of a bike, fix-a-flat, basic cable adjustments and more. This workshop will also touch on necessary maintenance for the last of the Winter riding. This is a great way to learn about your bike and become familiar with West Town Bikes. Bring a bike to work on. No prior knowledge needed! First come first served with a comfortable work capacity of eight participants.

Description:

Gain a comprehensive overview of bicycle mechanics in this 8 week Build-A-Bike course. This class will cover it all, including headsets, bottom brackets, hubs, wheel truing, brakes, shifters and derailleurs as well as finishing work and trouble shooting.

Description:

Work on your bike in a relaxed, social atmosphere. Participants share tips and an instructor will be there to help. The instructor's ability to assist you will be limited by time and the total number of participants. Come on out, fix your bike, get some grease on your hands, and ride off with a better bike and more know-how than you had when you arrived!

Help West Town Bikes build its stock of bikes for sale at Ciclo Urbano to help support our mission. We'll need bikes built and ready to go for the coming season. Put your skills to work and get your hands on a few more bikes to learn another thing or two.

We have bikes ready for fixin', but we need more! Donate your old or unused bike to help further the mission of WTB. Proceeds from sales will help us continue to do what we do as well as expand programs and workshops. So come lend a hand on Sunday afternoons!

Wheel Building with Alex (1 of 2)

Build your own wheels!

Participants learn how to lace spokes into a wheel, apply tension to spokes, and make a wheel round and true. Wheel building theory will also be discussed in class. We will be using the Gerd Schraner method of wheel building. 3 cross spoked wheels in either 32 or 36 hole rims and hubs will be built. Using this method makes a strong, reliable and servicable set of wheels.

Class 1 we will lace both front and rear wheels. Class two we will tension, round and true both wheels.
