Open "Swap"

Following up from the successful Winter Bike Swap at Jak's Tap on Feb 4th, West Town Bikes will host its own Open "Swap"!

Join us from noon until 5pm when we will offer a large selection of our used parts and accessories for sale. We have cranks, derailleurs, shifters, brakes, levers, saddles, pedals, wheels and much more all priced to move. No reasonable offered refused.

Build A Bike (6 of 8)

In week 6 we cover brake adjustment.  Lever and brake types, cable and brake adjustment and maintenance intervals are instrcuted.  This will include an overview of the parts and tools used for this procedure.

Build A Bike (4 of 8)

In week 4 we cover Hubs. We will overhaul the front and rear hub of wheels including removal of the freewheel/cassette. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

Build A Bike (8 of 8)

In week 8 we will review the past 7 weeks and have a course evaluation. We will also complete all finishing work on project bikes including adding accessories (racks, fenders, lights, etc) and other finishing work such as taping up handlebars.  Final step is to adjust fit after test riding the bike.

Build A Bike (2 of 8)

In week 2 we cover Headsets. We will overhaul the headset on project bikes including removal of the stem and handlebars, disassembly and cleaning of the headset, repacking bearings and grease, and the re-assembly and adjustment of the headset, stem and bars. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure. Both Threaded and Threadless Headsets will be covered.

Winter Bike Demo Brunch at the Empty Bottle

If you're one of those supremely dedicated bikers who rock two wheels through all four seasons, we see you & we salute you. Join Instructor Danni Limonez at the Empty Bottle between 12-5pm for tips, tricks and advice on winter biking! She'll be showing cyclists how to prep and repair their rides so that they can be fully equiped for cold-weather biking. Build-A-Bike (8 of 8)

In the final week of Build-A-Bike we will review the past 8 weeks and celebrate! We will complete all finishing work on project bikes including adding accessories (racks, fenders, lights, etc) and other finishing work such as taping up handlebars. Test rides are recommended so that adjustments can be made.

Build-A-Bike (7 of 8)

In week 7 of Build-A-Bike we will work on shifters and derailleurs.  We will add new shifter cables and housing to project bikes as needed. Chains will also be installed as needed and we will cover how to measure appropriate chain length We will also check and align front and rear derailleurs as well as check and adjust the limit screws of the derailleurs. We will cover the difference between friction and index shifting and go over how to adjust shifting of both. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

Build-A-Bike (6 of 8)

In week 6 of Build-A-Bike we will work on brakes. We will add new brake cables and housing to project bikes as well as brake pads (as needed). We will also service and adjust brakes including tensioning cables, adjusting brake pads (toe in) and balancing brake arms. This will include an overview of types of brakes, the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

Build-A-Bike (5 of 8)

In week 5 of Build-A-Bike we will true wheels. Truing is straightening the rim by adjusting spoke tension. We will go over the fundamentals of how a spoked wheel works as well. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.
